Diabetic appointments  are available with our Practice Nurse. Please call the surgery to book an appointment.

How to Achieve a Good Diabetic Control

  • Aim to keep your blood sugars between 4 and 7mmols
  • Keep your weight down
  • Keep your BP at 140/80 or lower
  • Keep your cholesterol at 5 or lower
  • Keep your triglycerides below 2.3mmol/L
  • Keep your HbA1c at 6.5% or lower
  • Give up smoking
  • Take regular exercise

Please ask at reception for:

  • Blood form – this should be done every 3months
  • Anti-smoking advice and referral
  • Advice on how to join Diabetes UK

When you come to the Diabetic Clinic at Aveley Medical Centre or the hospital, you will be expected to bring with you:

  • Your blood sugar testing equipment
  • Your blood sugar monitoring book
  • Your boxes of tables or Insulin if on something new, not on computer
  • Your BP readings
  • Any questions you want to ask
  • Please ensure you  had had your blood test prior to your appointment for Diabetic check

Your yearly Diabetic check-up should include:

  • A recent blood test
  • A legs & feet check
  • Micro-albumin Screening ( 3 in a row urine test)
  • Blood Pressure check
  • Flu Vaccine
  • Pneumococcal Vaccine
